Definitions of terms used in this navigation safety guidance‘Huge vessels’: Vessels with a total length of 200m or over.‘Vessels carrying dangerous cargo’:- Vessels with a gross weight of 300 tons or over, carrying 80 tons or more ofobjects including fiery powder.- Vessels with a gross weight of 1,000 tons or over, loading flammable highpressuregases in bulk.- Vessels with a gross weight of 200 tons or over, loading flammable liquid inbulk.- Vessels with a gross weight of 300 tons or over, carrying 200 tons or more oforganic oxide.‘Vessels towing objects’: Vessels towing or pushing other vessels or rafts.‘Vessels towing long objects’:Vessels towing or pushing long objects, if the distance from the head of thetowing vessel or pushed object to the end of the pushing vessel or towed object is200m or over.‘Huge vessels or other particular vessels’:It includes ‘huge vessels,’ ‘semi-huge vessels,’ ‘vessels carrying dangerous cargo,’and ‘vessels towing objects.”‘Vessels patrolling the route etc.‘:Vessels patrolling the route, vessels having fire fighting equipment, or vesselspatrolling vessels and the side, if they meet the requirements described in theJapan Coast Guard notification.‘Notification of traffic routes’:It refers to the ‘Notification of traffic routes of huge vessels or other particularvessels’ prescribed by the Act on Maritime Traffic Safety. Huge vessels, vesselstowing long objects, and huge vessels carrying dangerous cargo must send‘Notification of Traffic Routes’ by the noon of the day before entering the route.Small vessels carrying dangerous cargo must send the notification three hoursbefore their entry.‘Position report’:Vessels must report their position when they are passing a position report line.‘Report in advance’:A report required by the Act on Port Regulations. Object vessels must submit thereport by the noon of the day before entering the route etc.
