Capacity Building Support for the Division of Maritime Security, Fish and Wildlife Protection (DMSFWP) (Overview)

The Japan Coast Guard has dispatched a total of 22 personnel (excluding online training) on seven times through the framework of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation since 2018. This support has focused on capacity building in search and rescue, including basic firefighting knowledge courses, firefighting training, rescue drills, CPR and AED handling, as well as lectures on international law and arresting techniques. During this dispatch, it included lectures on international law, as well as training in the rescue field, including ropework and self-contained breathing apparatus handling, along with simulated rescue training conducted at sea. In Palau, in addition to meeting with senior Palauan government officials, MCT made courtesy calls to the embassies of Australia, the United States, and Japan in Palau, and exchanged views on support for enhancing maritime law enforcement capabilities. The JCG will continue to strengthen cooperation and collaboration with the coast guard agencies of other countries to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, while also supporting capacity building for countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
