The JCG provided Capacity-Building Assistance to the coast guard agency in the Republic of Palau (Summary of results)- Promoting our efforts toward the FOIP -

The Japan Coast guard (JCG) dispatched four members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT)―an exclusive team dedicated to supporting the enhancement of maritime security capabilities to coast guard agencies of other countries―to the Republic of Palau from November 15th to 28th. With support from the Nippon Foundation and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, the team provided capacity-building assistance to the Palau coast guard agency officials to promote maritime safety and security.

2. Summary
The MCT provided knowledge of international law, lectures on board inspection and hands-on boarding inspection exercises to the officials of Palau coast guard agency to support the enhancement of maritime law enforcement capabilities.
In addition, the MCT conducted a firefighting drills against ship fires, as well as marine rescue and transportation exercise for persons adrift at the sea, using maritime rescue equipment (Fiberlight Cradle) used by the JCG, to support enhancement of the agency's search and rescue capabilities.
The JCG will continue to strengthen its cooperation with other coast guard agencies to realize a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" based on the rule of law. Additionally, the JCG will also actively engage in providing technical assistance to coast guard agencies in the Indo-Pacific region.
