JICA's training program "Maritime Search and Rescue, Maritime Disaster Prevention and Marine Environment Protection" (Summary of results)~International Contributions to "Maritime SAR, Maritime Disaster Prevention and Marine Environment Protection"~

The Japan Coast Guard (JCG), from Oct.1 to Nov.8, under the framework of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), invited officials of overseas coast guard agencies to Japan to conduct the JICA's training program "Maritime Search and Rescue, Maritime Disaster Prevention and Marine Environment Protection" with aim of strengthening the maritime operational execution systems in the participating countries.

1. Training Schedule
Oct. 1 to Nov. 8, 2024.

※ Above underlined countries participated in this program for the first time.

3. Action items
(1) Lectures on search and rescue, maritime disaster prevention and environmental conservation.
(2) Oil analysis training.
(3) Oil spill response training.
(4) Visit to JCG related facilities and training with Special Rescue Team (SRT).
(5) Visit to Ruins of the Great East Japan Earthquake in Sendai City.

4. Summary of results
In the lectures by JCG officials, oil analysis training at the Coast Guard Research Center and practical training for oil spill response using oil fence or other oil prevention equipment were conducted at the Maritime Disaster Prevention Center. They also attended joint training with SRT, tour of Japan Coast Guard-related facilities and visited Ruins of the Great East Japan Earthquake in Sendai City and listened to a lecture by disaster victims.
At the end of the training, the participants formulated an action plan to address the issues in their own countries based on what they had learned in this training, which will be reflected to improve operations in their rescue work, environment and disaster management in their countries.
The JCG will continue to contribute to the maintenance of international order and maritime peace and safety based on the rule of law by promoting capacity building support for coast guard agencies and deepening "bonds" with them.
