The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched three members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides coast guard agencies in other countries with capacity building support on maritime safety and security, to the Republic of Djibouti from 17 Oct. to 2 Nov. 2024. This project is under the framework of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This was the second-time dispatch in this fiscal year.

2. Summary
The MCT conducted capacity building support on maritime safety and security to the Djibouti Coast Guard (DCG). We confirmed the boarding trainings by DCG itself using the DCG's Land facility and boat, and their instruction capability of instructor candidates, and we also provided advice on teaching methods. And we provided instruction and advice on the stoppage and pursuit training.
The JCG will continue to contribute to ensuring maritime security around Djibouti, which is an important maritime transportation routes for Japan, by supporting the DCG's capabilities.
The JCG will continue to strengthen its cooperation with other coast guard agencies to realize a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" based on the rule of law. Additionally, the JCG will also actively engage in providing technical assistance to coast guard agencies in the Indo-Pacific region.

4. Reference
Since 2013, this JICA project started as a part of the Project for Capacity Development of the DCG, the JCG has been dispatching personnel as short-term experts regularly. Currently, through this project, JCG are providing support for improving on-site response capabilities about maritime law enforcement and for instructor development of DCG.
