The JCG provided Capacity-Building Assistance to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Summary of results)- Promoting our efforts to realize a FOIP -
From October 14 to 22 of 2024, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched three officers from the Coast Guard Research Center and another officer to Malaysia under the framework of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide capacity building support for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and others.
1 Training Details:
(1) Assistance with knowledge related to criminal investigations
(2) Assistance in collecting evidence of crimes
2 Summary:
From October 14 to 18, the training seminar was led by the MMEA in the framework of the Third Country Training program, a joint project by Malaysian Government and JICA, inviting trainees from Asian and African countries.
In the program, the JCG instructed the MMEA members and the trainees from the above mentioned countries how to improve their knowledge on criminal investigations and their investigation skills while collecting, appraising and organizing criminal evidence at the scene, and also provided necessary measures to improve their leadership skills. as well as to improve case-handling skills.
On October 21 and 22, the MMEA and University Kebangsaan Malaysia members were also trained to identify criminal vessels by appraising paint fragments caused by contact with the vessel.
The JCG will continue to strengthen its cooperation with other coast guard agencies to realize a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" based on the rule of law. Moreover, the JCG will also actively engage in providing technical assistance to coast guard agencies in the Indo-Pacific region.
