The JCG provided Capacity-Building Assistance to the Vietnam Coast Guard (Summary of results) - Promoting our efforts to realize a FOIP -

The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched the Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides coast guard agencies in other countries with capacity building assistance on maritime safety and security, and others to the Vietnam from 8 to 17 September 2024. This project is conducted under the framework of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to improve their capabilities. This was the first-time dispatch in this fiscal year.

2. Summary
To support the improvement of the maritime law enforcement capabilities of the Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG), the MCT and others gave a lecture about on-board inspection, arresting techniques and conducted on-board inspection exercise for illegal drug cases and arresting techniques training required for arresting criminals.
In addition to this training, we exchanged opinions with VCG officials and discussed how could support the VCG in the future.
The JCG will continue to strengthen its cooperation with other coast guard agencies to realize a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" based on the rule of law. Additionally, the JCG will also actively engage in providing technical assistance to coast guard agencies in the Indo-Pacific region.

The JCG is supporting the VCG based on the Memorandum of Cooperation between the JCG and the VCG signed in 2015.
