The JCG provided Capacity-Building Assistance to the Philippine Coast Guard (Summary of results)- Promoting our efforts to realize a FOIP -
The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched three members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides coast guard agencies in other countries with capacity building support on maritime safety and security, to the Philippines from 25 Aug to 7 Sep 2024. This project is under the framework of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). We provided technical support to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to enhance their capabilities.
1.Technical Assistance Details
(1) Boat davit (launching apparatus) handling and small boat operation drills
(2) Damage control training for Fire-fighting
(3) Towing training
(4) Arresting techniques lecture, etc.
2.Summary
The MCT conducted "Boat davit (launching apparatus) handling drills" on the 97-meter class Multi Role Response Vessel (MRRV), provided by Japan, in the Philippines.
Additionally, "Towing training" was carried out on the 24-meter class Fast Patrol Boats (FPB) and the small patrol boat belonging to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
"Boat davit handling and small boat operation drills" and "Damage control training" were also conducted on the 83-meter class Offshore Patrol Vessel(OPV).
Training on "Personnel transport techniques", "Arresting techniques" and "Lecture on Safety navigation" were conducted for PCG crews.
The JCG will continue to strengthen its cooperation with other coast guard agencies to realize a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" based on the rule of law. Moreover, the JCG will also actively engage in providing technical assistance to coast guard agencies in the Indo-Pacific region.
