1 The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) has evaluated implementation status of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard(SLCG) officials who had attended oil spill response training at the Maritime Disaster Prevention Center (MDPC) from 20 to 24 May 2024. This support has been ongoing as part of the capacity building support for the "Establishment of an organizational system for continuous and autonomous training in oil spill response skill" implemented under the framework of JICA technical cooperation project since 2014 with the aim of enhancing oil control techniques; and is a three-year plan (phase three) started in July 2022.
2 The SLCG officials who participated in the training program further enhanced the skills that they had developed through the training by MDPC instructors. Moreover, in this program, it was also confirmed that they have been enhancing their capabilities to formulate plans for appropriate response to the terrain visiting the coastal area of Yokosuka, as well as enhancing capabilities to train instructors with their own in their country.
3 In addition, SLCG Director General accompanied the participants, inspected the training situation at MDPC. With a view to enhancing and strengthening the SLCG organizational structure, SLCG Director General paid a courtesy call on the Commandant of JCG on 21st, the Chief of 3rd Regional Yokohama Coast Guard Office and the Chief of National Strike Station on 22nd and inspected Yokohama Maritime Disaster Prevention Base and other facilities.
