Mobile Cooperation Team in the Philippines (Summary) - Continuing our efforts to realize FOIP -

The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched two members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides foreign coast guard agencies with capacity building on maritime safety and security, one officer of Criminal Investigation Division, two crews of patrol vessel KIKUCHI and one instructor of Moji branch of JCG school to the Philippines from 18 Feb. to 8 March. 2024, with the cooperation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). We provide technical support to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

1. Technical Support Details

(1) Duration: 19-23 Feb

Implementation by: MCT, officer of Criminal Investigation Division and crews of patrol vessel KIKUCHI

Target agency: PCG IDMS (Investigation and Detection Management Service)

Contents: Criminal Investigation and Forensic Techniques.

(2) Duration: 26 Feb- 8 March

Implementation by: MCT and instructor of Moji branch of JCG school.

Target agency: PCG instructors for Arresting techniques.

Contents: Arresting techniques (including teaching methods).

2. Summary of results

Through this training, participants learned how to implement initial criminal investigation, forensic techniques, and arresting instruction methods in their own country, which helped them understand and put into practice their own responsibilities in maritime security operation.

This was the 8th dispatch for PCG technical support this fiscal year.

The JCG will continue to cooperate with coast guard agencies of other countries to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) based on the rule of law. The JCG will also engage actively to contribute to the development of coast guard agencies in the Indo-Pacific region.
