Japan Coast Guard dispatched its divers and Academy professor to Malaysia (Summary of Results)

he Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched five officers consist of two divers from the Haneda Special Rescue Base, the diving instructor from the JCG Academy, a diver from a patrol vessel and the professor from the JCG Academy to Malaysia to provide the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) personnel with support of the technical rescue diving skills for the advanced rescue operations from February 17 (Sat.) to March 4 (Mon.) in2024. Our dispatch and support were conducted under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) support framework.

The JCG provided MMEA diving instructors with knowledge about safety management and team management etc. in lectures and workshops to develop the practical diving skills instruction system in the MMEA. We also supported MMEA instructor technically through practical rescue diving training at sea.

As part of "SAPPHIRE", a joint initiative between the USCG and JCG, on 3 March, the JCG, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) , the MMEA, and Singapore Police Force have the Subject Matter Exchange Program about the technical rescue skills on the deck of the USCG Cutter "BERTHOLF" at the Port Klang in Malaysia. Representatives from the Australian and South Korean embassies participated as observers. 

The JCG will continue to support foreign coast guard agencies to realizing the Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
