Mobile Cooperation Team in Djibouti (Summary)

The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched three members of its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides foreign coast guard agencies with capacity building on maritime safety and security, to the Republic of Djibouti from9 to 24 Feb 2024, with the cooperation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This was the third time dispatch this fiscal year.

In Djibouti, The MCT conducted Boarding trainings using a Djibouti Coast Guard (DCG) Land facilities and DCG boat to improve the maritime safety and security capabilities of the DCG. In addition, we arranged the arresting techniques training conducted by DCG itself, and then, we confirmed their capability that DCG instructor candidates were instructing new members and provided advice on operational methods.

The JCG will continue to contribute to ensuring maritime security around Djibouti, which is an important maritime transportation routes for Japan, by supporting the DCG's capabilities.

Since 2013, this JICA project started as a part of the Project for Capacity Development of the DCG, the JCG has been dispatching personnel as short-term experts regularly. Currently, through this project, JCG are providing support for improving on-site response capabilities about maritime law enforcement and for instructor development of DCG.
