Staff dispatched from the Coast Guard Research Center to Malaysia (Summary of results)

The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched two staff members from the Coast Guard Research Center to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), from 4 to 10 February 2024, to support improvements to MMEA forensic capabilities, with the cooperation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

To support the improvement of the forensic skills that are required for maritime law enforcement, the JCG provided the MMEA with guidance and advice on a paint flake analysis system, conducted a workshop and practical instruction on paint flake analysis techniques, and supported the improvement of forensic skills.

In addition to this training, opinions were exchanged with MMEA officials, and we discussed how to support the MMEA in the future.

The JCG will continue to support foreign coast guard agencies in realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
